HINTS: Humor is always appreciated. Our readers want to work for themselves and be able to support their families with their writing. Most write for the magazine industry and are looking for other ways to supplement or enhance their writing career. Past articles include ghostwriting, writing for the medical market, newsletter publishing, self-publish for profit, and unique ways to make money writing. We welcome ideas that expand on these or that lead writers to financial opportunities that they do not know exist. Marketing articles that deal with a specific writing-related product or service are warmly welcomed. We will consider but not pay for poetry, cartoons and jokes. Do not submit ideas that are not yet carefully planned. Contemplate your query for a few days before sending it to us. "Quickie" queries and queries with typos are quickly rejected.

COMMON REJECTIONS: Articles we've already done or have scheduled on the editorial calendar; queries laden with typos, unprofessional attitude, cockiness, or rudeness (we get these occasionally); queries that attempt to "fool" the editor (you know who you are).

COMMON ACCEPTANCE: Tightly focused articles; bulleted or outlined queries; "how to" produce this writing product (service) and "how to" sell it. Don't tell us how to get into a type of writing business without telling us how to sell it, too. If you can do it in 600 words, you're obviously a tightly focused, talented writer.
